AsteriskNow install stuck at /sbin/loader

author Posted by: thijs on date Apr 16th, 2008 | filed Filed under: voip

Update (25-04-2008): Fixed with new VirtualBox 1.5.6

After upgrading Ubuntu to 8.04 (Hardy Heron) and upgrading VirtualBox to 1.5.6 the problem does no longer occur!

Problem:
AsteriskNow install gets stuck at /sbin/loader when using VirtualBox

Solution:
None --> Use VMWare

Description:
Yesterday I was trying to install AsteriskNow 1.0.2.1 in a VirtualBox (1.5.0).

The installation got stuck at /sbin/loader.
In my search I got to the fedora forum (as AsteriskNow is also installing the rPath Linux Distro, this might not be too far off), and they suggested to enter: linux nousb nofb noacpi
but this didn't seem to help me.
Someone at the #IRC of AsteriskNow suggested to use VMWare, and this worked out of the box!
It might not be the solution to get it to work in VirtualBox, but it does get you AsteriskNow

System:
OS: Ubuntu Gutsy & OS X Leopard
Application: VirtualBox 1.5.0 & 1.5.5

Did this help you? Wanna help too?

  1. Zev Spitz Said,

    This is what I did:

    In VirtualBox:
Disabled USB support (don’t know if this matters)
    Set video memory to 2M
Set RAM to 384M (I have 768M RAM altogether, but even 512M caused a low host memory error)

    At the install prompt:
    linux text resolution=800×600 mem=384M
(text mode alone was not enough, I had to set the resolution as well)

  2. Alex Said,

    Thank you!
